It is commonly used to extend cable lengths, repair damaged fibers, or connect different types of fiber cables, such as a 48-fiber cable to multiple 12-fiber cables, ensuring network continuity and performance . Unlike connectors, splicing creates a permanent or semi-permanent joint with very low insertion loss .

  • Quick and does not require a fusion splicer.
  • Less permanent and slightly higher reflection compared to fusion splicing .
