Standard 12-Fiber Color Sequence

For a 12-core fiber optic cable, each fiber is assigned a unique color to simplify identification during installation and splicing. The TIA-598-C standard specifies the following sequence:

  1. Blue
  2. Orange
  3. Green
  4. Brown
  5. Slate (Gray)
  6. White
  7. Red
  8. Black
  9. Yellow
  10. Violet
  11. Rose (Pink)
  12. Aqua This sequence is used for both single-mode and multimode fibers, ensuring consistency across installations and reducing errors in high-density environments .

Application in Higher-Count Cables

When cables contain more than 12 fibers, the 12-color sequence repeats. For example, in a 24-fiber cable, fibers 13–24 use the same colors but may include ring marks or stripes to distinguish the second set of 12 fibers . In ribbon or tube-based designs, the outer tube may also be color-coded, and the inner fibers follow the same 12-color sequence .

Multimode vs Single-Mode Jackets

  • Single-mode (OS2): Typically has a yellow jacket.
  • Multimode (OM3/OM4): Jackets are usually aqua (OM3) or erika violet/aqua (OM4).
