Pre-Installation Preparation

  1. Select the Installation Location: Choose a location that is easily accessible, stable, and protected from environmental hazards. Ensure it meets the network requirements and allows for future expansion if needed .
  2. Check the Box and Accessories: Inspect the fiber termination box (FTB) for defects. Prepare necessary tools such as a drill, screwdriver, screws, cable ties, and tubing for cable management .
  3. Plan Fiber Capacity: Determine the number of fibers to be connected and select a box with sufficient capacity to accommodate current and future needs .

Installation Steps

  1. Mount the Terminal Box: Secure the FTB to a wall, rack, or desktop using the provided screws or expansion anchors. Ensure it is firmly fixed to prevent movement .
  2. Route Fiber Cables: Carefully feed the incoming fiber optic cable (from the network) and the outgoing pigtails (to the ONT) through the designated entry points. Avoid sharp bends to prevent signal loss .
  3. Splicing the Fibers: Inside the box, splice the incoming fiber to the pigtail using either fusion splicing or mechanical splice-on connectors. Use splice trays to organize and protect the fibers .
  4. Connectorization: Attach connectors or adapters to the pigtails as required. Ensure proper alignment and secure connections to prevent signal degradation .
  5. Connect to the ONT: Run the pigtail from the terminal box to the Optical Network Terminal. Plug the fiber connector into the ONT, which converts optical signals into electrical signals for your router or gateway .

Post-Installation Checks

  1. Test the Connection: Use a fiber power meter or optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) to verify signal strength and quality. Check for weak or missing signals and correct any issues .
  2. Secure and Manage Cables: Coil any excess fiber in the storage loops inside the box. Use cable ties and tubing to maintain order and prevent stress on the fibers .
  3. Routine Maintenance: Regularly inspect the box for dust, damage, or loose connections. Clean connectors and adapters with appropriate fiber cleaning tools to maintain optimal performance .
