This need is defined in the most recent standard, ORV3 BBU, as a 15 kW power output equal to 4 minutes of system operation per BBU unit, based on Li-Ion battery power storage and conditioning. This reference design is a four-switch, buck-boost DC/DC converter used for battery backup unit (BBU) applications, targeting Open Compute Project® (OCP) Open Rack V3 Power BBU specifications. The converter works in either buck, buck-boost, or boost mode.
